The Nagarkot Sunrise  with Bhaktapur Sightseeing Tour is especially designed for those that don’t have much time to explore the Himalayas. The trip offers you glimpse of the Himalayas from Nagarkot as well as tour of the ancient and historical city of Bhaktapur in a single day! We will first  drive to Nagarkot for a spectacular view of the sun setting behind the great white giants and back to Bhaktpur Durbar Square.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is located 15 km from Kathmandu and is home to some of the greatest pieces of ancient art and architecture. The square is filled with sculptures, woodcarvings and pagoda style temples. Whereas Nagarkot is a famous hill station situated 32 km east of Kathmandu. It is considered as one of the best scenic spots in the valley. Moreover, it is very much known for its sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas. Along with that Nagarkot also gives visitors a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley.

Itineraries

4-5:00 AM: Pick up from Hotel and Drive to Nagarkot(2200 m)

Early morning (departure time vary depending on seasons) we  head to Nagarkot which takes about 1.30 hours. We will stop at the Nagarkot View point tower to enjoy the magnificent sunset over the Himalayas. On a clear day, one can sight many Himalayan range from the spot such as the Everest and Annapurna range.

7-8:00 AM: Drive to Bhaktapur 40 minutes.

After Sunrise tour we  drive to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Once there you will be taken on a guided tour of the city. Bhaktapur has its own glorious Durbar Square (palace plaza) which is listed under UNESCO world heritage site. There you will  you will see the 55 Window Palace, Nyatapol Temple, Vatsala Temple, Statue of BhupatindraMalla, Pottery Square and many more.

Explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square 3-4 hours

The Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once home to the Royals who ruled over the ancient city. The complex consists of four different squares – Taumadhi Square, Durbar Square, Pottery Square and Dattatreya Square. Many of the temples and palaces were built is a span of several centuries.  Rulers from the three medieval city-states of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur all tried to one-up each other by building the finest of the finest temples and monuments. This is showcased in the beautiful marvels of the square. It is a huge display of traditional Newari architecture.

 

Nyatapola Temple

Nyatapola Temple is a famous pagoda-style five storeyed temple, thus, it is also known as one of the tallest pagodas in Nepal.

 

55 Windows Palace

One of the many attractions of Patan, 55 Windowed Palace is a stunning structure located in Durbar Squre. It derives its name from its beautifully carved fifty-five windows. This palace is constructed around several courtyards each linked together. One of the major attractions of the palace is its entrance gate aka The Golden Gate.

 

The Lion Gate

Located inside the Durbar Square is the 17th century gate called the Lion Gate. The gate has two large lion statues placed on either side. It also consists of stone sculptures of Lord Bhairav and Goddess Ugrachandi.

 

Dattatreya Temple

The Dattatreya temple is located in Dattatreya Square in Bhaktapur. According to legend, the temple was built using timber from a single tree in 1427. The temple is dedicated to the dietyDattatreya, the temple is home to three idols of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
